ARABELLA SCHOOL

(Picture unavailable. Unless someone out there has one ???)

5 1/2 miles North of Clearlake Oaks, in Long Valley, Arabella was a private school started in 1878 by the ranchers of the area. About 1882 the building was moved to the Kennedy ranch and became the Kennedy blacksmith shop.
After the private school closed, the Long Valley public school started near the center of the valley. The first Long Valley school was a long hall-like building and a kitchen was added onto the end of it. This school lasted for about 20 years and then the building was moved to the Dow ranch. When that school closed, a new building was built on the Garner ranch which continued until 1934.
